How can I order online?
You can order from our online store 24/7 all year round! Simply select items from the drop-down menus wait for the screen to refresh and click on the 'Buy' button. You will then be taken to the shopping cart page where you can review the items in your shopping basket, check and change quantities if you like, then click on the 'Order now' button. This will take you to the secure order form where you can enter your delivery address and payment details and confirm your order.
How long will my order take to arrive?
Orders we receive before 2pm will usually be sent the same day by either TNT or Royal Mail, depending on the size of your order. Delivery usually takes 2-3 working days. If you have a deadline for delivery please let us know before you order so we can check stock availability and delivery schedules and confirm to you if we can meet your deadline.
How long do the glow in the dark novelties last?
Most glow products last for between 4-8 hours once activated. As a guide, glow necklaces and glow bracelets last for between 4-6 hours and novelty glowsticks in all sizes last for about 8 hours. After this period the glowsticks do not just 'turn off' but will continue to glow more dimly for another few hours before the chemical reaction is finished and the sticks stop glowing.
The proportion of the mix of chemicals determine
whether the resulting reaction is a short burst,
high intensity glow or a low intensity long duration
glow. Some safety glow products, such as those manufactured
for safety applications, only glow for 5 minutes!
The glow is incredibly bright though and they are
commonly used in emergencies for example when the
use of electrical or incandescent light might cause
a fire or explosion hazard.
What is the shelf life of glow novelties?
If kept in their original foil packaging, manufacturers estimate a shelf life of approximately 2 years. Glow products are sensitive to humidity so it is important to store them somewhere cool, if possible in their original packaging and out of direct sunlight during summer months. Around room temperature is fine.
Can the reaction be stopped so I can use them again?
In experiments, we have found that if you put some glowsticks in the freezer it is possible to slow down the chemical reaction so the products can be used later. It takes about 30 minutes to freeze the sticks and works best on the glow bracelets and glow necklaces as these two products have a thinner plastic casing than the other glowsticks.
What happens if I accidentally break the plastic casing?
In the unlikely event that this happens, the chemical may cause some staining on clothes or furniture. If the chemicals are exposed to skin simply wash off with water. The chemicals inside glow novelties are non-toxic and will not cause you any harm. Even if you manage to get some in your eye, the effect would be similar to getting soap in your eye. Be sure to wash the eye thoroughly if this happens.

One of the reasons glow novelties have become so popular all over the world and used for so many applications is because they have the following properties:

How can something glow in the dark?
There are two methods for making something glow in the dark. Photoluminescence and chemiluminescence. In chemiluminescence, as the name suggests, the glow is produced by a chemical reaction. One chemical is housed in a glass phial that is then put inside a larger plastic tube, which is filled with the other chemical before the tube is sealed. When you bend and crack your Glowstick, you are cracking open the glass phial inside which mixes with the other chemical to create the mysterious glow!
Where do glowsticks come from?
The manufacturers we buy from make the glow novelties in America, France and the Far East. Therefore, your glowsticks have often travelled a few thousand miles before they are delivered to your door! The glowsticks we supply conform to the European Toy Safety Laws, are UK certified, and carry the 'CE' mark where appropriate.

Goods are sent either by our courier, Royal Mail First Class Recorded or Special Delivery, depending on the size of your order. All services require a signature upon delivery. We work on a 'first in first out' shipping policy, which means that your order will more often be delivered within 2-3 working days. When purchasing goods from our website, shipping prices are automatically calculated and you can review them before confirming your order. Orders taken by telephone will incur similar charges.
International
We deliver to most international destinations. Please telephone or email us with details of your order for an exact quote for overseas shipping. International orders will usually take between 7-14 working days to arrive.
Returns Policy
Our responsibility to you is covered by The Consumer Protection(Distance Selling)Regulations 2000 UK and you are entitled to a 7 day cooling off period should there be a problem with your order. Please note that if you return goods as you no longer require them or you have ordered an incorrect item, Altereglow will not refund carriage costs. Please contact us before you send any goods back and explain what the problem is. Goods that cannot be returned are those that have been removed from, or are without their original packaging or have been used in any way. We are not liable for incorrect/misuse of any of our products. Where products are found to be damaged before use, a replacement will be made or refund issued at our discretion.
